Modernizing Government Agencies with Cloud Migration
The Driver
As a part of its technology modernization journey, government agencies are migrating on-premises network operations centers to the Azure/AWS/Google Government Clouds. These agencies are looking to benefit from the ultramodern computing and analytical tools supplied by Cloud providers while adhering to the strict security and compliance requirements demanded by US government agencies. To provide the highest level of security and compliance, the Government Cloud uses physically isolated datacenters and networks located in the US only.
The Approach
APV’s Azure Cloud specialists helped our client modernize their case management system operations and migrate it to Azure cloud. By completing this migration, the client is now better equipped to manage a service that plays a vital role in helping millions of Americans with access to quality, affordable health care and other services through 90+ programs and 3,000+ grantees.
APV planned and coordinated the entire modernization in a detailed and sophisticated manner keeping business continuity in mind, which was very well appreciated by stakeholders. The APV team delivered quality output within the stipulated time, keeping stakeholders updated on every aspect of delivery.
The Cloud Migration Process
The APV team carefully created a detailed migration plan listing system specifications and requirements that included database and application servers, certificates, firewalls, and other required infrastructural components to meet stringent compliance and security requirements.
The migration plans cover database servers where migration scripts, data quality, and addressing data integrity issues separate from database credentials, which are stored securely.
APV also ensured all aspects of web and file server security. As part of this effort, APV also takes into consideration job schedulers and notifiers to ensure continuity in the functionality, where applicable, but in a more robust way due to the improved underlying infrastructure.
Additionally, APV collaborates with agencies’ IT (Information Technology) departments to define and document detailed backup and restore capabilities, along with failsafe mechanisms to guarantee continuity of services.
Once the new cloud infrastructure is in place, the APV team performs thorough testing of all system functionality and inbound and outbound traffic, along with security and vulnerability testing to ensure that the system is secured end-to-end.
The entire process is documented, and infrastructure diagrams are updated or created that record every specification detail of each server to ensure that the information is captured for future reference and for use in other documentation including the System Security Plan (SSP) and the Configuration Management Plan (CMP).
